Additional studies confirming the efficacy of Huperzine A as a pre-treatment to protect against nerve gas poisoning are currently in progress with WRAIR under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement.

The WRAIR biochemists have shown that Huperzine A has dual protective roles. First, Huperzine A spares the enzyme acetyl cholinesterase from organophosphate poisoning. Second, Huperzine A modulates excess glutamate neurotransmission, which leads to neuronal cell death.
